For the latter half twentieth century the shopping mall was a cornerstone of American social life and accounted for most of the nation’s retail sales. In the 1980’s there were around 2,500 malls in the United States, but today that number has dwindled to around 700. This week we examine the rise and fall of the American shopping mall and then as usual, pitch how we would fix it.
