I Am A Black Girl Who Rocks!

My friends, in case you haven’t heard, this year I’m writing the opening Black Girls Rock monologue for Taraji Henson! The show airs on BET on August 22nd at 8 PM. We’re honoring and celebrating the work of Issa Rae, Yara Shahidi, Roberta Flack, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Solange, and Derricka and Natalie Wilson. You won’t want to miss this one!

What an honor to be part of the #BlackGirlsRock team for a second year in a row! Writing the opening monologue for @tarajiphenson was truly a dream come true! And lemme tell you, this woman is a FORCE OF NATURE! After spending the entire week shooting #Empire, Taraji flew to NJ the night before the show, did a read through at 9:30pm & then had ONE afternoon of rehearsal before completely knocking the show out of the park! All i could think was “damn. this woman is unstoppable” But hey when you got it, you GOT IT. ?? Meanwhile i was a nervous wreck and didn’t have to say one line or hit one cue! ? – – It’s no secret that Taraji brings tremendous energy and talent to every project she’s a part of but seeing her in action was truly a blessing. Nothing motivates me more than seeing black women crush it. And in that way her performance was perfectly suited for Black Girls Rock. I joked that I’d spent all week trying to “Embody my Taraji” while writing but clearly I need to sprinkle some Taraji in everything i do. So the next time i’m feeling exhausted & stressed about work i’m going to #EmbodyMyTaraji & get that shit done!
